Our Story
The Hearth was born from a simple belief — that creativity can bring people together, heal, and help us grow.
Founded by longtime Wilmington resident Jennifer Hunt, The Hearth began as a dream to create “a true center” — a place where people of all ages could gather, make, relax, and connect. For Jen and her family, community has always been at the heart of everything. After years of involvement with the town’s Fourth of July Committee, Fall Fest, and the Arts Council, she saw a shared longing among residents for something more — a warm, welcoming space where everyone could feel at home.
For Jen, creativity has always been that space. Her own craft room was a refuge — a place to recharge, create, and find calm in the chaos of daily life. The Hearth grew from that same spirit: a welcoming home where everyone can find their own rhythm of creativity and connection. It’s where parents can work while their kids explore, families can make art side by side, teens can gather safely with friends, and adults can rediscover the joy of making something with their hands. From quiet reading corners to open studios, from “Unplug & Play” afternoons to guided craft sessions and community art nights — The Hearth is designed for every age and every season of life.
Today, The Hearth serves as a creative and community hub—a place where imagination meets intention. Through drop-in craft sessions, family art nights, maker tool access, and cozy spaces to read, work, or simply be, The Hearth invites everyone to slow down and reconnect—with creativity, with others, and with themselves. Whether you come to make something, meet someone, or just take a breath, there’s a place for you here.
Inside, the spaces are as inviting as the mission — a cozy library nook for quiet focus, a craft room for hands-on exploration, and flexible gathering areas for classes, family events, and community celebrations. It’s a place to unplug, create, and connect — without pressure or perfection.
The Hearth is the place you go when you want to go out—but still feel like you’re at home.
Our Mission
The Hearth is a creative home for all ages—a place to gather, make, & connect.
We invite our community to unplug from the noise and rediscover the joy of creating, learning, and simply being together. Through hands-on art, shared experiences, and cozy spaces that feel like home, The Hearth nurtures creativity, connection, and a sense of belonging for everyone who walks through our doors.
Core Values
Creativity is for everyone.
You don’t need to be an artist to create. The Hearth is a space where every person—of every age and ability—can explore, make, and grow.
Art is how we connect.
Through making, we share stories, spark conversations, and build community. Creativity is our common language.
Messy is good.
Perfection isn’t the goal—presence is. We celebrate process over polish and joy over judgment.
Leave the screen, find yourself.
Unplug, slow down, and rediscover what it means to be present—hands busy, heart full.
This is your place too.
The Hearth belongs to everyone. It’s a home for creativity, connection, and the simple joy of being together.
